Gabrielle David, who considers herself a storyteller, has created an affordable and accessible historical reference through meticulous research. This series shares stories of Black women at pivotal moments in American history—from slavery and the abolitionist and suffragist movements to the civil rights and feminist movements, and up to contemporary movements like Black Lives Matter, Me Too, and Say Her Name. These women transformed the world through their activism, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Each volume is divided into three to four sections, each beginning with a historical timeline told from the perspective of Black women and highlighting their achievements. This sets the stage for the featured biographies, which include detailed information and striking photographs. The overarching goal of TRAILBLAZERS is to celebrate the resilience of the human spirit by honoring these Black women—whether artists, activists, politicians, business leaders, scientists, or educators—who paved the way for future generations to carry the torch.
